IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza – Bioinformatics lab is seeking one talented bioinformatician (Rome)

The bioinformatics unit at IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (CSS) is looking for one young bioinformatician with advanced experience and skills in scientific programming.
The candidate will work closely with the diagnostic departments of CSS and will be in charge of managing and analyzing whole exome, targeted resequencing, SNP array, gene and miRNA expression data. This task will partly require the development and maintenance of ad-hoc, standalone and web-based, software pipelines.
The candidate will also be involved in groundbreaking cancer research projects, in the implementation of MitImpact (http://mitimpact.css-mendel.it/) and in the design and implementation of Dedalus, a high-performance framework for the analysis of biological networks (http://goo.gl/lINIUz).

A 3-year Post-Doc in Biological Physics and Statistical Mechanics is open in the group of Prof. M. Nicodemi based at the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin, Germany, starting April 1st, 2017.
The research topics concern the investigation of the molecular mechanisms underlying the 3D organisation and regulation of eukaryotic genomes, and human disease linked loci, by combining polymer physics, computer simulations and experimental high-throughput data analysis.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in statistical mechanics or computer simulations, biological physics or bioinformatics.
She/He will work within a collaboration including physicists, molecular biologists, and bioinformaticians in Berlin and across EU and USA.

The Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London implements a cross-disciplinary model of translational research, leveraging on the extensive adoption of genomics and bioinformatics approaches to advance the identification of novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers of disease. We are seeking an experienced Bioinformatics Scientific Software Developer to join our BRC Translational Bioinformatics Core.The post holder will develop scientific software and contribute the administration and development of the Bioinformatics HPC cluster infrastructure, for application to translational research bionformatics projects. They are expected to have experience with HPC systems and to play a leading role in the design and development of analytical workflows as well as the development of software and database solutions to increase the connectivity and exchange of information between different BRC research entities. The successful candidate will have post-graduate experience in the development of scientific software and use of HPC systems, preferably in the areas of medical bioinformatics. They will enjoy team working and interactions with experimental and computational scientist to work on complex biological datasets, and will have significant experience on the management and analysis of large data volumes and the use of programming languages such as R, C++, Phython, Perl and Java. This post provides an ideal opportunity to be part of a highly integrated and multidisciplinary environment and to play a key role in the advancement of translational projects to improve patients’ clinical outcome. Titolo Progetto: L’asse alimenti-uomo: studio dell’effetto della dieta sul microbioma

L’attività di ricerca sarà finanziata con fondi di un progetto Europeo nell’ambito della Joint Action “Healthy diet for a heathy life” (HDHL), JPI-Intestinal Microbiomics.
Progetto dal titolo “Diet-induced Arrangement of the gut Microbiome for Improvement of Cardiometabolic health”.
L’obiettivo principale del progetto è quello di studiare l’influenza della dieta e di determinate tipologie di alimenti sulla struttura e sulle funzioni del microbioma intestinale. Si intende verificare come il microbioma intestinale, ovvero il complesso dei microrganismi che vivono nell’intestino e dei loro geni, possa essere influenzato dal tipo di dieta, dalla tipologia di alimenti consumati e dalle modalità di preparazione degli alimenti stessi. Ulteriore obiettivo è quello di verificare, mediante appositi studi di intervento nutrizionale, come l’introduzione di particolari tipologie di alimenti che rientrano in un modello dietetico mediterraneo riesca a modificare struttura e funzione del microbioma intestinale in individui con un’alimentazione poco salutare promuovendo l’aumento sia di microrganismi che di pathways metabolici microbici in grado di determinare un effetto benefico sulla salute.

Within this context, the BRC Translational Bioinformatics Platform focuses on translational research projects based on genomics and bioinformatics approaches for the identification of novel therapeutic targets and disease biomarkers, and the dissection of molecular mechanisms underpinning diseases.

Our research activities span across different therapeutic areas including Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Cutaneous Medicine, Environmental and Respiratory Health, Imaging & Bio-Engineering, Infection & Immunity, Molecular Genetics and Transplantation. A position is currently available in our group for a post-doctoral researcher with extensive experience of bioinformatics and analysis of high-throughput molecular data sets, such as genomics (NGS and microarray), flow- and mass-cytometry, , proteomics, in integration with clinical and pathological information. The goal of the project is investigating the regulation and functional role of non coding RNAs in tissue response to hypoxia and ischemia.


We are looking for a candidate that is going to interact with biologists and bioinformaticians to manage and analyze NGS data (mostly RNA-seq) and microarray data.


The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years experience in dealing with NGS data, a good command of English and written communication and at least 2 relevant publications as first author in peer reviewed international journals. The candidate is expected to interact with a small international group and to be able also to work independently. Knowledge of programming is a definitive plus, as well as a good statistical background and/or wet molecular biology skills.

Salary is proportional to experience and to the publication record (up to 38 000euro/year before taxes and retirement contribution i.e. IRPEF and INPS).
